Course Content

Complete the Cognitive Behavioural Coaching Micro-certification to strengthen your ability to work with clients’ thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours within a coaching context. You will explore evidence-based CBC principles and apply practical tools during live sessions, supported by guided reflection on your coaching interventions.

The programme follows a structured, practice-led approach that helps you integrate cognitive behavioural coaching techniques into your existing coaching practice. By the end of the course, you will have increased confidence using CBC tools ethically and effectively, and a clearer understanding of how to apply them across a range of coaching sessions.

This module introduces the foundations of cognitive behavioural coaching and explains how it differs from therapy. You’ll learn why CBC is such a powerful framework for coaching, and explore how the core principles can support client growth and your own professional practice.

  • The origins of the cognitive behavioural approach.
  • Key differences between cognitive behavioural therapy and cognitive behavioural coaching.
  • Benefits of CBC for both coaches and clients.
  • Core principles of CBC.
  • Understanding self-efficacy and its role in coaching.

In this section, you will explore practical tools and interventions that form the backbone of CBC. You’ll learn techniques to help clients explore, challenge, and change unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns in a coaching context.

  • Socratic questioning to guide client self-discovery.
  • Cognitive interventions to help clients reframe limiting thoughts.
  • Behavioural interventions to support new patterns and actions.
  • The PRACTICE model for structuring effective coaching sessions.

Core beliefs often underpin client behaviours and challenges. This module teaches you how to identify, explore, and work with core beliefs in a coaching session, using structured, evidence-based approaches.

  • Understanding what core beliefs are and how they influence behaviour.
  • Using the ABCDEF model to map thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
  • Techniques for identifying limiting or unhelpful beliefs.
  • Approaches to challenging and reframing beliefs safely and effectively.

This module focuses on applying what you’ve learned in a safe, hands-on environment. You’ll practice CBC techniques with peers and observe demonstrations to deepen your understanding.

  • Participate in coaching sessions with fellow participants.
  • Engage in group discussions and reflective exercises.
  • Observe the trainer demonstrate a CBC coaching session.
  • Receive guidance on integrating CBC tools into your real-world coaching practice.
