Course Content

This micro-certification is delivered across four interactive half-days and is designed to move you from understanding the foundations of group coaching to designing, facilitating, and marketing your own group coaching programmes.

The programme follows a structured, practice-led approach that helps you integrate group coaching tools and frameworks into your existing practice. By the end of the course, you will have confidence facilitating groups, a stronger understanding of how to manage diverse group dynamics, and practical strategies for designing impactful group coaching programmes. You will leave with a clear roadmap for delivering group coaching sessions. Your learning will translate into tangible outcomes for your clients and your practice.

You’ll begin by establishing a clear understanding of what group coaching is and what it is not. This section focuses on contracting, expectations, and the conditions required for effective group coaching, with particular attention to psychological safety.

  • Contracting with groups and modelling desired behaviours
  • Understanding why people join groups and what helps them thrive
  • Psychological safety and its role in effective group coaching
  • Stages of group development and what to expect at each stage

This part of the programme deepens your understanding of how groups function and what is required of the coach to hold the space effectively. You’ll explore relevant psychological theories and adapt core coaching competencies to the group context.

  • What makes a group a “group”
  • Belonging, attachment, and motivation in group settings
  • Establishing and maintaining agreements in a group context
  • Cultivating trust and psychological safety
  • Maintaining coaching presence with multiple participants
  • Reading group energy and responding in the moment

You’ll move into the design phase, learning how to intentionally structure group coaching programmes while remaining responsive to what emerges in the group.

  • Structure of a single group coaching session
  • Designing multi-session group coaching programmes
  • Supporting different learning styles within a group
  • Designing for online or in-person group coaching
  • Creating conditions for belonging and engagement

Participants have the opportunity to start designing or refining their own group coaching programme.

Practice is central to this micro-certification. You will have the opportunity to facilitate group coaching activities.

  • Trainer demonstrations of group coaching sessions
  • Practising facilitation and group coaching activities
  • Running parts of your own group coaching programme
  • Exploring common challenges and difficult group scenarios
  • Strategies for prevention and intervention in group dynamics

The programme concludes with practical conversations about bringing group coaching into your practice, including positioning, marketing, and defining your offer.
